Art Finds Friday - October 8, 2010

1) ART SUPPLIES
I got some Glimmer Mist from Stampington & Co. last week.
colors:
sea glass - a very light blue, so light it is only good for spraying on white
olive vine - a lovely strong green
sunflower - end of summer kind of yellow
red velvet - soulful red

Pros - I like using paint spray effect, fun to use and cheerful.
Cons - these bottle leak and drip like mad. I have to remember to put the cap on before I shake them as they splatter all over!

2) MUSIC
I have recently discovered Kate Earl while listening to my Fiona Apple station on Pandora. I enjoy the sound of her voice and this kind of sad music.

 3) ART WE MADE THIS WEEK
A picture Lily, 8 drew last week of Mr. Duck, something that caught Laura's eye when 'antique' shopping!

4) FOLLOWER LOVE:
Each week I will be linking to one of the artists who have chosen to 'follow' this blog. I believe that by checking in here they are probably somewhat of a like mind, a person that I would be friends with in 'real life' and so I wanted to recognize our community a little.

Becky Caldwell of The Gritty Bird
I love her eclectic jewelry designs. And the sound of her life:
"My days are generally spent running the house, home-schooling and working on my art. My work includes mixed-media paintings and jewelry. I truly love making things and honestly I get a bit down if a day goes by that I don't get to. Creating has now become my therapy, my release. There is nothing more wonderful and freeing then watching your art slowly come together and then joy of seeing the finished results." Becky Caldwell
A kindred soul!

* note I have changed this column to Art Finds Friday rather than just five things, that way I can focus on arty things - art in the larger sense of the word: 2D and 3D art, photography, mixed media, poetry, links to artist's sites, supplies, ideas relating to and so on.

See you next week,

  1. I will not fall into the category of stay at home mom, home schooling or creative artist but I certainly enjoy your blog. I read, I quilt but I work full time as well. Thank you for the links.

  2. Interesting post, I love the glimmer mist too. You can rinse the spray end under warm water. They shouldn't leak when you shake them. You can also buy new spray ends.
Love your DD's Duck, she is an artist for sure!!! I save all the kids drawings too, one of my favorite collection

  8. thank you all for stopping by! and for the kudo's for my kids, I will pass it on. Lily was really pleased when I showed her the drawing posted online. Often they will make something and ask if 1) they can send it into the magazine or 2) I will post it on my blog!!! Truly, I appreciate each of you taking the time to visit and leave me a note.

Mystica, I am so glad you feel at home here too :)

Fairyrocks, thanks for the tip on the mist sprays!

  9. Oh my, yes, Mr. Duck is Magnificent! That is definitely a drawing I would frame and hang - I just love the energy!

The Glimmer Mist sounds intriguing ... although I just discovered I have flecks of yellow paint all over a photograph sitting near - NEAR - my art table so perhaps I had better wait until I learn more control? And thank goodness for Pandora! I was feeling so out of date musically and it has been a wonderful way to learn about "new" music. I didn't know there was so much after the Beatles!

    xo loving the new look!

  12. Shona. I wanted to ask you if I could link this video on my blog. I am giving a collage workshop next month, and, although i do make my own paper often, I do not have time in the workshop to go over it. I would like to send the people coming here if they are interested.

I also want to thank you for inspiring me. As of now, I am a mother to three girls, and I really feel art helps me be the mother I am. A couple years ago I read your article about scratching and painting pic in Somerset and this month I have my first featured article in the same mag, and they used my scratch and paint photos! (I did give you credit in the article!) You really are an inspiration. Thank you so much!
