Somerset Home

Living artfully means to me having beautiful things around my home. Before we had kids my husband and I spent our weekends antique shopping (OK, old furniture bargain hunting). We have filled up our home with what we love. Now we only have space left to fill with small things, art and beautiful touches.

After reading the latest Somerset Home magazine I feel inspired to make more things that are beautiful for my home. Just finding the time is the issue! Somerset Home and Somerset Life combined have enough ideas to lat me years :)

I have an article in Somerset Home on p76, Butterfly Reminders, which I am pretty proud of. Somerset have included the first page of my spread in their online sneak peak, check it out here.

    Shona,

I love your dream pillows. I've made a few pillows over the summer, but yours are absolutely beautiful. I just started experimenting with photo fabric. I have hundreds of old photos of my family and hope to make pillows for Christmas presents.

Any suggestions for making a successful piece?

  2. Cant wait to check out this issue. Art seems to have taken a backseat for me lately, due to time constaints and just the workings of sumemr holidays. I actually sat at my sewing maching this morning to make a vintage inspired photo pillow for a gift and was reminded of how it feels to be in the "zone" of creating.

I am off to check out your article.

5 weeks in ireland must have been beautiful.

  3. Shona, this is so thrilling! The butterfly reminder was, of course, creative and beautiful.

I crave time ... if there were more of it in my life, I'd beg to be your student for days on end.

  5. Hi Shona,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I think your work is wonderful. Congratulations on all of the published work. Your butterfly reminders are absolutely charming and I will have to try my hand at an interpretation of them!! I have just started doing some soldering work myself, and have many inconsistencies... I was very interested in your comment about the type of solder. I read somewhere that you shouldn't use lead solder for jewelry because lead is toxic on the skin, so I've been struggling with lead-free, wit exactly the bumpy, sometimes charred results you mentioned!! I've never heard of "Silvergleam solder" will have to google that!!!

  8. I like living artfully too, especially on-line (which I'm sure you've probably noticed!). It's been so nice to have you bring your perspective over to Seedlings, and I'm beginning to wonder if you might be open to sharing your work with the world on my blog. I have a few artists who send me things, which I store at my website domain and use whenever it seems to fit. In this way, I try to promote their art and the beauty and truth of art in general, even as I write. No problem if you prefer not to. It is just a thought.
