Mixing media

This is an example of something I have been working on within one of my larger projects. It is not finished, but I wanted to share that I have been have a wonderful time combining my various loves, altered photography, stamping and paint. I have lately been stitching art pieces together, which is a fun alternative to gluing. I have so many ideas and thoughts, they are almost bursting out of me.

Within the hustle and bustle of being a (homeschool) mom of 4 under 6 I am somehow finding the space to do it all. Creating art for me, at this season, is about finding balance between being the mother I was designed to be and being the artist I desire to be. My arms are wide open to it all.

I love this piece! Now I'm inspired...if I only I had a picture of myself on top of a mountain in Ireland...oh well, I'm sure you wish you had Betty photos. In any case, I too am ready with open arms to show all the transparencies of life.

  2. Wow Shona- you amaze me every time I see your work. I am constantly in awe. I feel what you mean about being a homeschool mom/artist and finding a balance. Most times it is easy to integrate the two. Sometimes, it seems like burning the candle at both ends. I have another blog about our homeschool days/family life, so that adds to the things to work on also. busy.busy.busy. But, I dont know what I'd be doing if I didnt have art and school. Oh yeah. Maybe relaxing on a beach somewhere with a margarita and a book. Dreams.

  3. You know, I think that through all the years of homeschooling, I found it much easier to start and finish a project than if my kids had been in school. People always asked me "how do you get everything done with the kids always at home?" I could never get anyone to understand that being at home was simply the only thing that we knew, and we were content and happily going about our business. My kids learned at an early age to enjoy their time. To appreciate small things. Most of the time, when my kids were younger, if I were in the middle of an art project, then they would be in the middle of an art project also!! Right along side of me.

Well, I see that I am rambling. I often do that when I'm on the subject of learning at home. It's one of my greatest passions.

  4. I'm so glad that my comment made you feel a little better. I have so much I could probably share with you. We started home learning from the very beginning and my kids are now 18, 17 and 13. My two boys went to an old-fashioned half day kindergarten class and then 6 weeks of first grade. That was all for us. No more school! My daughter who is 13 has never been.

If you ever have any questions or need a pick me up, please don't hesitate to email me at CactusLovr@aol.com. I'm always thrilled to help in any way.
